How about a Christmas thread
I know that for me, Christmas seems far away; but to the women in your life, Black friday is quickly approaching:eek:
I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread with recommendations for inexpensive Christmas presents. Not things like "radar" or other big ticket items, but stuff that you can recommend because it meets your expectations and you might think other boaters or fishermen might want. Every time I'm on somebody else's boat, I look around to see if I can steal an idea from them. I was on Mark's (Mlag) boat and he was filling his tank with fuel from portable containers. He was using a siphon that worked like magic:D I had to have one. I think it is called a "jiggle syphon". Google it. You put one end of the syphon in your tank and when you place the other end in your container, you jiggle it up and down and it starts to syphon. I got mine at Home Depot in the plumbing department. Works as advertised:) So, that's my first suggestion. The Jiggle Syphon. Ask Santa for one. 5th |

I suggest The Fish Grip (or maybe called the lip gripper)
Blaze orange so easy to find in a hurry Floats in case they go overboard Made in USA Keeps thumb away from hook Easy to control fish for pictures Only $14.95 Wanna go ALL out? Throw in an extra $20 and mate them up with some FISH OFF GLOVES. Two GREAT products for under $40 and the life you save, may be your own!! ;) |
In honor of that witch and her freezing cold ***, how about some ideas on keeping WARM?
 Marty - I got something very similar to the "jiggle syphon" at Bass Pro years ago. It's basically a long flexible tube with a brass piece that primes when you shake it. I used it to drain my fuel tank after my boat went under. Worked great for getting the seawater/fuel mix out. Mine is called something different, but I can't remember what (I keep thinking of that damn "shake weight" thing that was so popular with the ladies for a while.... ) |

Here's one:
For everyone that likes Captain Morgan mixed with something, I've found the big plastic jugs of "Captain Jack's Spiced Rum" to be a fantastic alternative and for half the price. I can't taste any noticeable difference; especially when mixed with something. It's half the price of Captain Morgan, and it comes in a big plastic bottle, which is a huge plus for guys like me with jacked up paws......no broken bottles to worry about. I found it at Bella's in Cape St Claire. |
Liquor in a plastic bottle  - stuff I drink will eat right through it :D
Really only one true fishing gift - Julie Ball calendar. |

Call to see if he still carries them. 5th |
Is that "jiggle syphon" similar to a vacuum tube that makes men's body parts bigger ?
They always looked like they hurt to me... But I guess someone who needs the help, needs the device. |
Got a West Marine Black Friday sales brochure in the mail today. I've been needing to replace my car/boat battery pack (like to have it just in case on these cold mornings).
West Marine is selling one of those new lithium jump starters (small but powerful enough to start a weak battery) for $100. I've checked online and this seems like a good price. Anybody ever use one? They also have binoculars (7x50 waterproof) on sale for 100 dollars off:eek: They normally sell for 190 on sale for 90:D I don't need these, but would make a nice Christmas present for somebody. 5th |
Bought my lithium jump starter from West Marine today:D
Dick's had ammo on sale, so I swung past there as well:eek: 5th |
Hey Marty, from the way you say your luck has been running, you may want to see if any of the seafood places, down your way, are having any sales...

And, here's the 36 inch fish we threw back because she was too small:eek:
|
46 is definitely a very nice fish... Maybe next season I will start trailering the boat... In search of bigger fish.

I guess next spring, I will either have to follow you guys around, our bribe you to take me fishing... Honestly, one of my best days of fishing, was the first time I met Marty, he answered the radio, when I hailed anyone from Tidalfish. We had a tough time limiting out, because we had trouble finding fish under 28. It was tough throwing 30-40 inch fish back. I would love to know what we were doing, that other boats weren't. No lie, other boats kept asking us what we were using... I believe Marty was jigging for blues.. I don't know if he can fish, is good luck, or just drives the fish away from him.. Lol

I can't catch a fish big enough to fillet!
|
No problem Bruce, I fully understand "I just had to have"..... I swear I spend more on fishing during the winter on the internet than I do during the season actually fishing.

Another nice cheap gift idea for those of us that are waaaay too tough to use a belt for a little ole rockfish is the "Cush-it". $20 foam ball that goes on the end of the rod butt before you plant it into your groin area and fight the fish. Very helpful in the springtime. And it floats!

I'm intrigued by the bucket grip. May just need this.

Dave; a follow-up on the bucket ring. I used it on my last trip of the season (Dec 15) out of PLO. It works great. Thanks for the suggestion.
