Don (Hunter)

I try to stay in touch with Don (Hunter) and his wife Dawn. As you know, they have moved to the Keys and they fit right in with the locals. When Mike (Garlien) and I were down during the winter, we caught fish and took them to a local restaurant for them to be cooked. We had a great time:)
I was wondering what Don would be doing this summer with the temperatures in the upper 90's. Well it looks like he is still fishing early mornings and evenings, and keeping busy during the day in the cool water catching lunch:eek: I'm glad they are enjoying their new home. 5th |
Nice!! That's probably $60 worth of lunch right there. :)

Don,
Please tell me that's not bait !! bhl (Bruce) |
I need to call Mr. Don! Glad he is enjoying life!

Dang...................Don really has it rough all right:rolleyes:

I just hoping he snags his anchor or drops a rod over and calls me to come find it :D
Still look for his truck at Sandy Point. |
Good staying in touch with Marty. The fishing has been ok but not as consistent as this past winter. Need twice as much chum since a 5 lb block will barely last an hour in the 87-88* water temps and that gets a bit expensive. Offshore bite has become more hit or miss but doable. This time of year the thing to do is chase the bugs (lobster). We have mostly been snorkeling for them in the back bay area where the depths average about 6-7 feet. Dawn and I have been at a slight disadvantage not having a good inventory of lobster holes but we have learned fast how to find them. We caught 11 day before yesterday and another 9 this am. Real sweeeet to have lobster tails building up in the freezer:D
http://i1256.photobucket.com/albums/...Lobstering.jpg Skip - I have given up on the new fangled bendable wreck anchors (mighty mite); I have broken off more tines than I care to mention. I finally took the advice of my neighbors and went with a simple ole grapple with the chain attached to the crown and some wire ties as a tripping mechanism....so far so good... http://i1256.photobucket.com/albums/...chorset-up.jpg We keep the diving gear on the boat now so it doesn't take much of an excuse to jump in this crystal clear water and take a look around the bottom. I still don't think I could ever jump in the Ches Bay to take a look at 1-2 foot viz....my hat goes off to Skip for doing it time after time. That rod and reel you recovered for me is still in use weekly down here. |
Damn, they look good:D
Bring your dive gear with you next time, you can dive in the Chesapeake, wrestle some rays, and have Chesapeake scollops to go along with your lobster:eek: Tell Dawn, the "coasters" work great. Thanks for the flea market find:) 5th |
11 then 9? No wonder they call them bugs, they must be everywhere!! That is awesome. Keep it up!
|
I don't know how you do it - diving when you can see 30 feet in clear water :D
Be sure to keep in touch - love seeing photos from Fla. |

I just bought a Hawaiian Sling to get me started into spearfishing. Looking to pick up a spear gun in another month or so. I am tired of hearing all of the stories of hogfish, big grouper and mutton being speared daily. If you can't beat em, join em:rolleyes: Down here the elite fishermen are the spearfishermen:D. |
Speargun..................hmmmm.............now I know why the boat is named ..........."Hunter":D Hey.............next time you and Dawn come back to Maryland............I'll supply the crab,,,,,,you bring the lobster:)
|
If you crush the barb on your speargun are you allowed to pre-season C&R fish?? :D
