Looking for advice!!!!!!!!!!
 

I have promised to take a couple of retired Vietnam Vets fishing this weekend and the Rockfish bite has been mediocre at best. I have taken these guys out twice this summer and had a great time with the croakers and perch.

I would like to buy a few dozen bloodworms and put them on some decent perch. I just do not know where to try for them this time of year.

I will be going out of SPSP and any advice would be appreciated!:D

Oyster bar, mouth of Severn, has been pretty reliable.

you need current.

The mouth of the Severn(Hackett's Point) or you can find them around the sewer pipe, or around the rockpiles of the bridge.

Current has been everything lately...

For perch, try peelers...also try artificials like beetlespins...They are still deadly and a buck a piece....perch school, so look for hiding places, rocks, fallen trees, etc...look for the sun/shade line...they are leary of light...Also go shallow...We have recently gotten numerous perch throwing into 1 to 2 foot of water and pulling it back into 3 or 4 foot...The bites are also not as aggressive now and you may get many hits when you are pulling the bait out of the water....Keep in mind that the shallows are still warmer and they will seek out that warmer water...

We started out at the first rockpile of BB and didn't get a single hit and after about 20 minutes I decided to run down to Hacketts and give it a try.The bite was on immediately and it was constant pullage from 7:30 til 12:30. The quality of perch was quite remarkable ranging from 6" up to 13 1/2"!

The old timers had a great time and I was glad to be able to give it to them.

What did you end up using for bait ?

How were the water temps at Hacketts ?

How deep were you ?

Most of the perch I have caught over the last 2+ weeks have been very shallow on artificials....

I was using Bloodworms on a top & bottom rig with red #6 hooks and silver spinners.

The temps were 52 degrees

I was 19' to 21' right at the drop off to deep water

We were using just enough weight to hold the bottom 1 1/2 oz.

The bite was alot lighter than summer. We were constantly bouncing the bottom... basically jigging by raising the rig 1-2 feet. Some of the hook ups including the 13 1/2 incher you never felt the bite it was just there when you pulled up.
