Braided Line with Planers and Scotty Clips

I just put 300 feet of braided on each of my six planer rods. This season will be my first one with boards, and I just read something about braided not holding well with scotty clips. My setup includes scotty clips!! :(

Am I going to have to swap out the braided from my planer rods, or can I just put the line all the way into the clip so that the line will hold!

Don,
Your Scotty Clips have 2 settings. If they pop on you, put them to the tighter setting.

Gonna try to describe as best as I can. Look at your Scotty. Opposite the chartruse clamp end. See the black piece in the center towards the back? Put your finger inside the open area towards the back, now push it away from the clamp end. It should snap farther back increasing the pressure on the chartruese clamp end.

Hope that helped.

Just take and put the braid as far back in the Scotty Clip as possible and you will be just fine if you want make a loop in the line and put it in the clip works perfect.

I use mono on one side of the boat and 80 # braid on the other. You will be fine! 5th (Marty)

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I feel much better. Jim, I do remember you pointing out that the scotty clips have an adjustment on them now that I think about it. I need to take my bucket of clips out and look at one. Plus Jim, you would have warned me not to use braided if it was a problem just like the countess other tips you have passed along.

Don

Now if that rain will just hold off this Sunday!!

If you don't like how the scotty clips work with braid, just switch to rubber bands. A lot cheaper than re-spooling. Bands work just fine.
Cheers,
