Ocean City 163 reel worth it?
OK, I posted this "elsewhere", let's see if I can get some opinions here?
Found someone selling an old Ocean City 163 reel, spooled with wire, on a boat rod with roller tip and guides (older looking rod from pic's) for 15 bucks. Is it worth a 30 minute detour on my way to visit my folks over the holidays? |
For 15 bucks, I'd have a hard time passing it up as long as it's functional.
Can you post a pic? I'd like to see it. |

These were the pic's sent to me.

Oh yeah, I'm looking at this as a back-up for my buddy's spread.

The wire is worth 15 bucks.

I'm no expert on this stuff but I'd pay $15 for it. Looks in decent shape. Looks like the rod is from the same era so it matches pretty well. It'd be more of a novelty for me than an actual backup but hey, if it works, why not? And like mdracer said, the wire alone with worth that easily.

don't know if i'd trust it with a 40"-er on the other end
that would be on my basement wall! |
Thanks guys, I'm not gonna make the effort just for the wire. I see a lot of these ocean city reels and they look obviously like they'd be best as a wall decoration. The fact this was rigged with wire line had me thinking maybe there was a year/model that could stand up.
Also got a line on some cheap Penn reels that seems like a better detour anyway. Cheers, bob PS - more replies on this board than the "other". Interesting :) |
