Fishing Report 4-30 5-2

Took some time off to fish the MSSA tournament and enjoy some quality time on the boat. Planed on fishing Thursday before the tournament but ended up spending the day with my father putting around Solomon’s drinking a few beers and having lunch on the water. Unfortunately, I may have relaxed too much since I left some fishing time on the table during the tournament. Crew arrived early Friday am and we left the dock in search of our own special patch of water. I decided not to follow the fleet but search for the bait and hopefully find some rock. Searched for few hours in the am looking for marks and found what I was looking for around 10:30am. Game ON… First pass was a double then second, third, fourth. Quickly we were in C/R mode. Then some other boats found out what we had going on and the fish and bait scattered. Around 2:00 the crew was restless and low on beer. Against better judgment I let them talk me into putting our last fish in the box and racking the gear and head to the weight station with a fat 40”. Day two I headed back to the same location and started catching a nicer grade 38” - 43” fish steadily all day but no bubba. Again the crew was happy and each person had many opportunities to real in fish, and eat peppers. I think my crew was too happy because on Day three I was out voted and everyone wanted to stay on land and get breakfast and an early start for home.

Overall the crew was happy a few citations were awarded. The homemade lures my father and I make smoked the fish. I can’t wait to get back on them again this weekend.

Also had some fat pelicans diving on the bait ball we were working. Some of the fish still had sea lice and some were spawned out. Also one fish I caught had a fresh brand new chart parachute lure in its mouth. Evidently they do go back to feeding after they are hooked.

Good luck gang.

Great report Rob. You certainly had a good tournament. I didn't fish the tournament, but know several who would have been very happy to do as well as your crew. Looks like your dad is going to be very busy this winter with lures. I finally lost an eye in one of mine; so you may be doing repairs as well:D. 5th (Marty)

Nice report Rob. Better start pouring lead soon. I'm going to put a lot more of your lures in my spread when they're available!
