Fishing Virginia waters

It has been many years since I have fished the Virginia portion of the bay. I know fishing liscences are reciprical but I think I remember hearing or reading somewhere that you must register with Virginia before fishing their waters. If so and the boat has a liscence for everyone on board does each person have to register or just the liscence holder? If there is such a registration required is it done on line or by phone. And if anyone has the link or phone number could you post it. If this weather holds like it has may be making a few trips down this winter. Thanks in advance.

Everyone on board needs to register:

You will still need to register with the FIPS even if you have a MD saltwater license. All persons on the boat will need to register. You can register by phone or online.

The Virginia Fisherman Identification Program is a state program to register saltwater anglers every year without charge.

Anglers can register online or by calling toll-free 1-800-723-2728. Registration is quick, easy, and free. Yes, it's free.

If you go - double check everyone with you has it.

Although free - the citation given is a " must appear " - meaning long drive to go to court.

Va. does check for it - and often catch people who had no idea it was needed.

Thanks guys I thought there was some sort of registration required. I just sent out text to the guys that normally fish with me telling them to register. Soo they have been told!! I just registered very simple process. I have enough crap on my mind when making a long trip to remind them, so if there is a boarding god help them, I warned em.

And one good thing for us "old" guys; they send you an email reminding you to register each year just before your yearly registration runs out:D
