4th of July trip

Chumming is nasty, effective, but nasty. Been a long time since I allowed myself to fish like I did today. Maybe it was because it was Independence Day, people wanted their fishing independence? Maybe because so many people were off work? Maybe all the fish in the Bay are off Rock Hall right now? Or maybe this happens in all chumming fleets all the time?? I suspect it’s a little of ALL the above but it was like sitting at the boat ramp on opening day. Heard lots of “REEEALLY?? Right there?” “Why not pass me your line and save your anchor?” “There are fish everywhere, go find some someplace else”. “Are you kidding me?” And saw LOTS of folks just shaking there heads.
It was effective and we had a limit of fish up to 24” by 7:15 but not really my cup of tea. I will do it again but I hope a better bite turns on somewhere else and cuts down on the fleet up North. Burned 3.1 gallons today and it took 16 minutes from slip to anchorage. :)
I’ll be back on the hook slinging that garbage off the stern but I do look forward to the pleasure of trolling again soon. In fact, I heard all the BIG and easily fooled fish have moved back to the Baltimore Light area .....: meet ya down there.... ;)

I saw you in the middle of all the "chummers" and I couldnt believe it. I thought, that must be another black 36 Judge... we trolled just above the fleet and after the tide changed, we did well. Got our 2 man limit with 2 overs (31 & 32) and 2 unders (both 26). Rods were going down left and right so we threw back another 5 keepers. Once it turned on, we had all of this action in about 30 min. The first 2 hours were slow, with one keeper and 1 short, so we just watched the chummers reel in their fish and wish we were chumming. But once it turned on, it was all worth it

Was with that fleet last night but stayed away from the main body.

Used frozen menhaden that was at least 6 months old, no chum.

Easy limit for the boat in less than 45 minutes along with some nice catfish.

They can't all be there but anyone with a boat is there now.

Saw blues breaking off chesapeake beach last week, hoping the blues and croakers head north soon.

Remember those potatoe cannons we used to play with? Just load them with chum! Just saying? Very effective in keeping people away from you!

Damn it Kevin, now you tell me. After I buy a new set of chumming rods and lower the value of my boat by at least 15% by chumming on it?? I could have trolled up fish even closer to home AND slept in to do it??? I don’t think I like you anymore......;)

I LOVE croaker fishing!!

Mental note- don’t anchor near Mako Mike.....ever!
