New to the forum and fishing the bay. Took my Daughter out several times and she beat me every time out. All I heard was "FISH ON" followed by "ITS A KEEPER." Brings a smile to my face every time.

Great pic.

Welcome to CBA.

I was a freshwater fisherman most of my life until all of my fishing buddies got old and lame. Then I moved on to the saltier species. :D

Nice neighborhood you live in.

That's what it's all about. Her smile is priceless. I can wait to take my son for the first time next year.

I remember when my son started catching fish all by himself....from tying on a lure, to casting, retrieving and landing the fish.

And the time I put him onto a sweet spot for Largemouth Bass.....he was throwing a 6" Zoom Lizard and a bass devoured it. He was yelling, "Dad! What's going on?!!" because he couldn't believe that a fish could pull that hard on the line. So his first Largemouth was almost 4 pounds.

I started out with the typical pushbutton reel and thought it was great. Now, I wonder how my dad put up with my backwards over-the-head casting, birdnests and general wildness.

I started my daughter with a piece of bamboo stick with a length of cotton string tied to the end when she was very young. I attached a bobber and tied on a hook. She would just set it down in the shallow water next to the community pier with bloodworm and wait for the bobber to get pulled, set the hook and lift the fish out with no reeling or casting. I remember these fishing 'trips' were kept really short to keep her interested.

Not sure anyone was watching the bobber or not, but one time the rod suddenly jumped and pulled down. She was barely able to pull her catch out - an eel caught in less than 2' of water.
