1/3/16 OCMD Tog
Got out Sunday on The Reef Chief as part of a 5 man walk on charter. The morning was calling for 3-4' 10-15 mph out of the southwest. By mid morning it picked up to 15-20 with gusts to 25. We had steady 4-5' seas with an occasional 6 or 7' swell. The headboats further out decided to head in. By the end of the day it laid down quite a bit so the ride back wasn't too bad.
We ended up with 19 tog averaging about 3-5lbs. A few were bigger but nothing near 10 lbs. We did have a good ratio of keepers with only a handful of undersized fish. Somehow I was the king of the sharks, catching a bunch of dogfish. Throughout the day we saw several bird shows with gannets diving. Unfortunately, they were 6-7' miles off the beach. We only saw a couple of boats all day trolling, but did not see much activity inside 3 miles. The captain said a couple of weeks ago, they had a couple of days of good rockfishing but that faded out. Hopefully, the cold will send them down a little. http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...2629b0aa68.jpg |
Looks like a good day and good eats.

How far out were you?

We were about 6 miles off the beach. We had birds and dolphins both inside and outside of us.
Agreed, they are tasty. One of my favorites actually. |
Nice catch of buck-toothed rubber lips :D
Great eats! |
