DCMSSA: Feb 6, Alex & Mark Binsted, Shad Fishing on the Potomac

DCMSSA,

Beautiful fishing weather today. I hope you have been getting out. Rockfish are still around (somewhere) and the yellow perch bite is picking up. Join us Wednesday Feb 6, 7:30pm at Steamer’s in Bethesda for another fantastic meeting. This month’s guest speakers are Alex & Mark Binsted of Fletcher’s Boat House. Alex will be helping us all prepare for the much anticipated annual shad run on the Potomac. If you haven’t stood shoulder to shoulder on the banks of the Potomac just upstream of the boat house catching American and Hickory shad on every cast you are missing out. Your next opportunity is just a couple months away. Here is a short bio of the Binsteds:

Mark Binsted and his son Alex Binsted both grew up in DC’s Palisades neighborhood along the Potomac River. They have spent entirely too much time fishing for shad, striped bass, white perch, sunfish, largemouth and smallmouth bass, and snakehead just minutes from their house. Both worked for the Fletcher family as teenagers. Alex is now an assistant manager at The Boathouse at Fletcher’s Cove and also produces beautiful shad flies, streamers and jigs. Mark, a residential architect, helps organize the annual National Capital Angling Show for NCC-TU and writes their popular email “Shad Report” every spring.

We are looking for volunteers to help out at the DCMSSA table at the NCC-TU fishing show March 10 at Georgetown Prep in Bethesda. The show is a lot of fun. Email me or Zach if you are available.

The DCMSSA meetings are free and open to all. Join us and if it’s your first meeting (or your guest’s first meeting) Zach will buy you a beer. Thanks Zach! DCMSSA meetings are a great way to meet other local fishermen, share your knowledge and brag about your recent successes. You may even learn something.

Club elections will be held in May with new officers installed July 1, 2013. Please nominate yourself or anyone interested in the following offices:

President
Vice Pres
Secretary

Thanks and see you Wednesday.

-Jeremy
