Baitcaster for jigging/casting?
 

any opinions on avet baitcaster and shimano trevala or st croix mojo rod for jigging? suggestions for other gear in same price range or less are welcome.

Father's Day is approaching and i would consider this a huge upgrade from my standard kmart grade gear and don't want to mess up. it's primarily for summer fishing on bay. most of my fishing is typical channel edges, so it seems like Med rod, Fast action should do the trick? I like casting, want a sensitive rod that won't snap, and easy return on warranty if it does.

i'm not hardset on baitcaster, just leaning that way and open to advice.

Avet is overkill for jigging the bay. Try the Revo series or Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier on the Mojo.
I have an Avet MXJ, its better suited for tuna.

My favorites are a Shimano Curado 201 sitting on a Mojo and a BPS pro-qualifier sitting on an All-Star rod that migrated over from my LM bass fishing days. If I was to do it over again, I would have bought two BPS reels.

Careful, I'm pretty sure the Curado is freshwater. Unless your as religious as I am about washing down your stuff, that may come back to haunt you.

I'm extremely happy with my Cardiff, spooled with 15 ib power pro.

I routinely use freshwater baitcasters for jigging. I routinely wear them out too, so I make sure I get a reel with a good warranty. (I want a warranty where I can walk the reel in and get a new one off the rack.)

That Mojo Bass rod is a winner and in my opinion the best value in that price range, although there are better rods for a few dollars more.

PS: I heard Jamie uses all Ugly Sticks now.

i lightly researched the baitcasting reels named so far and they are more what i was thinking. the avet sx mc looks like a nice piece of gear but is a different animal. i don't take good care of stuff and expect a freshwater reel will probably not become an heirloom, but they are not outrageous price and will give me experience and a comparison point if that's my direction. really need to get my hands on them in real life to check out - thanks

Have you ever gave any thought about getting a nice Custom Rod built, I know just the guy to do it...:D The 6'2' M/H with a fast tip rods are my favorite. Give me a call if you’re interested and I’ll set you right up. .

Bad thing about Steve's rods is they're almost too purty to fish... I said almost.

I'll order the rod we discussed once the youngest stops dropping stuff overboard, he lost a rod crappie fishing two weeks ago. Funny thing is he never drops his lacosse stick even with defensemen wacking the crap out of him. Maybe I should bring a longpole instead of a net.

I normally use the shaimano curado and I recently purchased a Revo Inshore...both are outstanding and yes they take a beating...
The st. croix mojo bass it great buy for the money, I like a 6'8 med xtra fast...
I have had st. croix and g.loomis rods and neither can compare to a powell rod...simply amazing....rod is around $140...mojo bass is $99...both are good deals...
