Opinions on getting a boat

As fate would have it, I'll be spending most of my time in Annapolis for the next 18 - 24 months. Our primary residence will remain in upstate NY.

I'm going to have a lot of free time and I want to have a fishing boat docked near Annapolis. I'm looking at something like a Carolina Skiff 20 ft range. I would like to lease for a year if that was as option. I could buy and then sell but that's a hassle.

Has anyone rented their boat for side income?

Thanks for the input. I'm a lifelong fisherman who is new to the CB.

Check out Freedom Boat Club. Use the boat and walk away at the end of the day.
My friend belongs to a boat club in Florida and really likes it.

I’d say buy a nice boat and sell upstate NY. :D The Chesapeake will make you never want to go back to NY.

Thanks guys. I like the convenience of a boat club but I like having a boat set up my way and I want to go whenever I want to go. I see there's a boat show and I may try that

Any chance you're stationed at the naval academy?

If so, they used to have a fleet of Boston Whalers.

Welcome to MD.....enjoying the bipolar weather yet?

My wife is in Annapolis for a 2 year corporate assignment. I'm leaning toward joining the Freedom Boat Club. Any feedback is appreciated. I have time during the week so it should work good for me.

Any tips on a good resource, book, etc to learn the Chesapeake waters?

Two of my favorites:

https://www.amazon.com/Rudows-Guide-.../dp/0870335685

and

There is also a ton of information on the web. I would recommend going with a good guide a couple of times just to learn a few of the techniques. The time of the year and what type of fishing you may want to do leads to a large variation in techniques from trolling to light tackle fishing.

Good luck

I've done a lot of research on the Internet. I'm going out of Annapolis next week and plan to troll by the bridge to Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

I will be out Friday but north of the bridge. VHF channel 68 or 72- Always monitor 16 too. Cal me when you’re out there, and we can team up.
