Another beautiful day on the Chesapeake!

I want to take a couple lines to thank Vince Ringgold, Dave Smith of MSSA and Jim from Marty's Tackle in Edgewater for their efforts in making the Youth Angler contest happen. The contest has given Anna her own motivation to get out there as much as she can, and the quality time together has genuinely strengthened our bond. Thanks again!!!

Yesterday was another beautiful day on the Chesapeake, and last day of summer vacation for Anna. We left out of South River and it didn't take long to find some fishing action as we headed up towards Annapolis. Then over to mouth of Eastern Bay and finally back home for 4 hours of outstanding fishing action. (6) species/ 2 citations.

She also caught her 1st toadfish; which she is VERY proud of :D

Your turning that young lady into quite a fisherman.

or vice versa - I'm generally satisfied to sit it out even when they're not biting rather than pull anchor.

Yesterday, I probably did at least 6 anchor sets, 10 drifts using the drift sock, 2 put-ins and take-out with the mac gear (2 rods). Not to mention racking my brains and trying every nook and cranny I could think of to get a legal croaker. Got lots of them, but nothing over about 6".

Nice job....Sure she had a blast...

I am so envious...That is a beautiful redfish...

I have never caught one and would love to add one to "the list"....

:)

redfish

PLO area has plenty. You can fish out of Buzzs marine down there in St Jerome's creek and the mouth of creek has them as well.

They are catchable up here, but not with dependability for us. Fishing perch spots nearest the bay using perch techniques such as spinner arm baits seems to work for many folks. I read that cutting spot into strip baits is effective. We tried it without much luck.

I bought some redfish magic lures but haven't tried them yet. They are like beetle spins but 3x as large with a colored paddletail grub and gold blade.

Anna has caught them on BW's on top/bottom rig and vert jigging (shell bottom). On vert jigging, we were drifting over a school that looked just like a nice thick school of rockfish on the FF but caught a redfish. Motored around and repeated the drift and we both hooked up redfish. Ahhh, must be a school of redfish! We've had luck with gold stingsilver and gold kastmaster.

Thanks for the tips !

I have a couple of those "larger" Beetlespins in the box and a slew of stingsilvers...

Put together a few "special" bottom rigs last night and will try to find some in the next few days...Will try cut fish and artifical baits as well...

I will look for more shallow areas with fast current since that seems like where most folks are finding them...

Will let ya know if I ever get one !

:)

She outfishes me. :(

I've had great luck with small metal lures this year, but not much on bigger spoons and stingsilvers.

Great job getting her out there again. I know my son loves being out fishing with me, and I wish I had more time to make that happen.

That's what I keep Mike around for.....I can't see crap at night, and that's always when I get things fouled up the most.
