Washing bucktails
 

I washed some bucktails. I used about a ten percent solution of bleach and water, they fell apart. I never had that happen before. What do you us to wash your bucktails?

Shampoo and conditioner mixed together in a bucket of fresh water. Johnson &Johnson tangle free works well keeping parachutes straight as well.

Gary of Spankin Baits uses Windex. I haven't tried it yet. He told me it doesn't bother the glue.

For bucktails - I just use some laundry detergent. Mix up about a few ozs to a gallon of bay water in 5 gallon bucket.

Keep it in corner of boat and wash / dip bucktails when you check lures.

As you sadly found out - bleach destroys bucktails.

The nylon on parachutes is tougher but can be washed same way. The detangler spray and comb really help keep that type hair straight.

Gary of Spankin Striper told me he would keep a bucket of soapy water on the boat to wash his lures as well, just like Skip indicated. Didn't worry about rinsing them off either. Right back in the water into the lineup. So much for those who spray those fancy attractants on their lures:D
