Prospecting trip yields nice limit 6/8
We are out looking for nice fish for the DU Ladies Tourney on Sun. We are in it every year, with Willies' daughters' crew of lovely, lady anglers:D
We have won this three times, once with a 52" fish:eek: Anyhow.... we started on the east side this am and gradually moved west to finish up with a nice 10 fish limit to 29". There is a TON of bait but no schools of rock and no birds working either:confused: When we passed the bait we got hit, but NEVER more than 1 rod and lots of shorts:( We are going to another area tomorrow to try and find some bigger fish so maybe we will repeat on Sunday. All bigger fish were caught on swim baits/bars. The smaller fish and throwbacks were hitting 17 Tony's and became a real pain in the ass:mad: We can't understand why. with all the bait, there aren't any birds/breakers around ?? |
Might have just been "one of those days" where nothing makes sense. We've been seeing a lot of bait too, but only once in the past month have we seen the surface on fire. And no bird action north of the bridge yet.
That's a great pic of you Charlie.....a shame the fool that took it didn't do a better job of getting the entire monster fish in the photo. :o |
I have heard some of that bait is still pretty big. I wonder if some larger spoons might be the ticket?

Spoons
Dritchett......15 and 17 Tonys were all we had in addition to Johns Spoon rig which is the same size as a 17. There are tons of bay anchovies and the little rock seem to key on those so the spoons attract them while the larger rock go for the swim-baits.
