Advice on 5 rod spread...
 

I have been using a set up that I got from a diagram, from Tyler's Tackle. It has produced well for me, but always looking for better ways.. Especially since someone laughed at me for having my wwb line out 300 ft... Come on guys, let's here you best 5 rod spread....

Screw that guy! :D He is probably just too fat and lazy to reel something in that far. I heard a rumor he won't even feel in fish on his own boat. Sounds like a jerk to me! :D

Besides being a LOOOONG way to reel, on busy weekends, I'd be worried about being cut off. People are thinking about 300' back on a crowded day. But if your catching and not losing lures, as the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!

Nothing wrong with a wwb line. They catch fish. This year it has just been a pain keeping the jellies off of the wwb.
Rod 1- 28oz umbrella back 50'
Rod 2- 16 oz umbrella back 70'
Rod 3- 2 / 4 tandem back 120'
Rod 4- 4oz solo chute back 160'
Rod 5- 15" 4 arm umbrella with a 4oz chute back 250 ft.
Keep steering in a lazy "S" pattern to keep lures in undisturbed water.

Right now it seems speed is more critical than lure choice. I was catching fish up to 4 mph on Wed's. If we slowed down, we wouldn't get a bite. Speed does 2 things, it draws a reaction strike and it moves the baits higher in the water. It pays to experiment with the speed.

Sell me your five rods/reels and become a jigger:eek:

No, seriously, there are numerous ways to troll 5 rods. If you have a board, I'd put 4 on the board (out 4 bars is hot right now) and one deep rod with 20 ozs. back 5 bars.

Remember; no spread is right or wrong, if it catches fish.:)

Solo 3oz parachute out 230'
solo 5oz parachute out 200
tandem 6/3 out 180'
tandem 7/5 out 150'
tandem 9/6 out 100-120

Greg, your really that far back with the tandems? Still true if off the boards?

Well, I will keep your advice in mind.and we will see what happens.. If you are out, above the bridge, give me yell...I'll be the guy pulling in the fish... Lol... Or will answer to Celtic Charm, on 69.

I have been running most my baits 5-7 bars off the boards this year. My hot baits have been solo 3, 5 and 7 ozers though. Fish have been high to the surface.

I just advocated for those lengths off the boat to keep them away from the boat/motor noise.
