Strange...
Went out yesterday on Phil's boat. We thought we'd try some Upper Bay livelining. Went to Bowleys Bait & Tackle at 6am to get bloodworms...sold out. We opted for nightcrawlers and clam snouts.
Headed over to the ES side and stopped at a place where we'd caught some spot before...unfortunately, the spot were very few and very far between but the white perch were large, hungry and plentiful. Anyway, we decided to take the few spot and start LLing. I took one, hooked it through the lips since we were drifting with a nickel colored 4/0 circle hook and cast it. Left it alone for a while and pulled it in to check on it about 10 minutes later...the spot was gone and in it place was a perfectly lip-hooked 9" white perch!!!!!!!!!!! So...how in the hell did that happend? No way the perch went after the spot and if the spot got off on its own, why did the perch hit an empty and non-shiny hook? If I didn't know better, I'd swear Skip was in his dive gear and decided to push me across that thin line. Anybody got any ideas? |
OK...
You guys both had too much to drink... You were catching white perch that looled like spot in your condition... You cast the perch (uh spot) out.... 10 minutes later there are no rockfish in the bay and viola ! You caught a nice perch ! :D |
Was not me - honest - but would be one hell of a joke to play. Bubbles would give a diver away though.
I have caught White Perch on bare hooks many times - but small # 4 size and often with spinner / beads. No idea how the Perch you reeled in might have gotten onto a circle hook. |
Ed;
I'm not impressed, now if he had been hooked behind the dorsal fin:eek: That would have been an episode for Twilight Zone. 5th |
