Marty this might not be practical in your case, but with my trailered boat I flushed the motor for 2 to 3 minutes, or longer if I tasted saltwater from the telltale. Normally it was fine after a minute or 2 though.
That's on a 90hp Yamaha. I assume bigger motors would take a bit longer just because......well it's ALL bigger.
