Default 11/15/13 Great Crew

Yes, we had a good day catching fish; but my crew actually saved me money today.
We left Sandy Point a little before 7am to a gorgeous sunrise. Ran south and planned to drop lines just south of Bloody Point. With the binoculars, we could see a lot of birds at the mouth of Eastern Bay and just into the mouth. We stopped about a mile short so we could deploy all 16 rods Yes, each time I go out, I put in a couple more rods.
We saw Jason (Rockin Robin) jigging among the birds. We slid into the fray and hoped to see several rods go down. Nothing!! I called Jason on the phone and he said they were mostly dinks, but they did pull one keeper fish out of the birds.
I slid back toward deeper water and soon found myself amid a slew of crab pots Somehow; we were between two lines of pots and getting squeezed. My 27 Judge looked like we were in a rodeo. We took a hard right here, and a hard left there, and Lou and Mike (garlien) grabbed the planner line on each side and gathered in just enough to miss all the pots. We got through with only one umbrella as a casualty. We never ventured into the mine field again the rest of the day.
Fishing report: We wound up with 9 fish today. All but two came off deep boat rods with umbrellas or spreader bars. One side of the boat was green, the other side white. We caught fish off both sides. My most productive rods were umbrella with 10 oz. weight, back 140 ft; umbrella with 16 oz weight, back 90 ft; and spreader bar with 24 oz. weight, back 60 ft.
No big fish today, Mike had a 28 inch fish, but most were in the 25 inch range. Nice healthy looking fish. The boards did pick up two fish, but most fish and bait were deep today. We worked deep water (50-100 ft) with 70 ft being the most productive. We stayed on the western side of the channel about a mile or two above Bloody Point.
Mike didn’t like my choice of music. We started out with Bluegrass (trying to entice the fish Shawn Kimbro catches), moved on to Rock (Leynard Skinner; figured rock for rockfish); but the fish didn’t bite until the Christian Rock music started playing I guess we needed Divine intervention. Mike was convinced when we had three on at once! I had tackle spread all over the deck. Half of it was tangled in the net!! The net was more of a hindrance today then a help. I had my first ever radio call from someone looking for a TechFish fisherman!! Turns out it was JonnyO.
It was a good day, with good friends. I know Jason did well also. Look for a post from “Rockin Robin”.

I'll post some photos later
