opening day
left the severn at 5 AM and fished TPL to BPL to Matapeake to Hackett's then Tolly point and the ships. spent most of the time west of bloody. best marks in 40 feet. lines in at 530 AM lines out at 630 PM. long day.
two bites. 34 inch under and a 38 inch female full of roe. fat. both released healthy. both bites came due west of BPL in 40 feet of water. first bite was 34 inch under about two hours after high tide. hit a pearl and holographic 20 inch umbrella with a white parachute head off the downrigger set at 15 feet. added 15 lb. weights to downriggers this year and lines were seriously straight down.
second fish came 30 minutes later in same area after we started doing circles. 38 inch fish hit a WWB @ 175' 20 inch umbrella, pearl color, all 8 inch tsunami's with 6 oz. pearl tsunami trailer ( no parachute). that was it for the day.
some jellies, but not too bad. fair amount of bright green sea grass. checked lines every 45 minutes. some times fouled, most times not. lots of floating sticks and small logs and other debris in water. water clarity varied, but was definitely cleaner south of BPL on east side. had lots of charters with us in the morning west and south of BPL.
only saw one other boat catch all day. and that was right at the same time we got our second fish. ran 5 lines on each planer between 4 and 10 feet deep estimated. not one was touched all day. ran a mix of chartreuse and white singles with 9 inch baits off the planers.
marked a lot of arches/boomerangs around Tolly and the ships, but no takers. fish were down deep on the bottom. marked a lot of bait west of BPL. and that's where we caught. hopefully back at it Wed this week.
