Perch Akimbo in the South River 2012 07 26
With small craft warnings, wind out of the south at 15 to 20 knots, and 2 to 3 foot swells, we stayed in the South River today and slayed some jumbo white perch.
We iced 9 fat perch, and Norm and I each caught around 20 to 25. It was a three-species day overall; Norm caught a solitary spot and a few small rockfish, and I also caught a number of small rockfish. Norm had success with his small chartreuse Rattletrap, but the hot lure today was my white beetle spin.
We were underway at about 5 pm, finished fishing at about 8:30, then went upriver where we enjoyed some crabs and beer at Mike’s Crab House (great jumbos!). We left Mike’s at almost 11 pm, had a near miss with a thunderstorm, and got home at almost 1 am.
Low tide at Thomas Point was at 4:35 pm, high tide was at 11:40 pm, and the moon was 44% visible and was waxing. The salinity at Annapolis was about 12 PSU and has been trending up from about 9 PSU over the past 30 days.
Nice Fillets!
