Opinions on rod holder locations
I just ordered a hardtop from atlantic towers and trying to figure out how to have the rod holders layed out.
Right now im going with 7 across the top.
Should i angle the outside rod holders out? I was thinking 15 degrees out for those.
Im also debating on having holders welded on the uprights on the sides or just buying adjustable ones to go there. If i get welded ones, should i angle those as well? and if so what kind of angles?
This is going on a sea ray amberjack with a 10 foot beam.
thanks

Here is what Bill Judge has on my dream boat (36 Judge Chesapeake). I think the rod holders are laid out perfectly.

That looks sweet!
Do you really use all those rod holders?
Whats the beam on your boat? and how much space between holders on the top?
My amberjack has a 10 foot beam and wasnt sure if i should add more on the top. Didnt want to overcrowd them. I believe with the 7 im thinking about getting, it should give me approx. 1 foot between holders.
I havent done alot of trolling but plan to start trolling more so i guess its better to have more than less ........ instead of later wishing you would have had more welded on. Ive never used planers either so im not sure what i'll need when i do try them. Really wished i would have tried to do some ho'ing this season so i would have had some idea what to expect and know how i should rig the boat before buying this hardtop.
One other thing ive been wondering about .............. If your trolling with the roof holders and your driving from up in the cockpit, I wont even be able to see the rods if they go down. Could make it tough when fishing alone.
I see you have a 2nd station in the back which wouldnt be a problem for you obviously.

As stated in my original post. That is Bill Judges personal boat. It has like a 12' beam. I am not sure the distance between holders but I will measure mine when I get home.

As of right now i think im going with 7 rod holders across the back of the hardtop with the end one on each side angled out 15 degrees and 2 rod holders on each upright leg also angled out 15 degrees.
Sound ok?

Cage Rattler: If you are using planer boards, and the rods are up on the rocket launcher where you can not see them, I listen for the line to pop from the planer clips or I routinely take a quick look at the planer clips to see if any are relaxed in the down position as opposed to the straight out position as when the line is still attached to the clip.

Classic dialogue
Boy:I'd like to call you.Your number? Girl:It's in the phone book. Boy:Is this seat empty? Girl:Yes,and this one will be if you sit down. Boy:Haven't I seen you some place before? Girl:Yes.That's why I don't go there anymore. No money no way in real life,no gold no way in game!
