No doubt this is the WORST trophy season EVER. Between the weather, muddy water, floating debris, WIND, and the lack of fish around, I have only been out 3 times this year. I went 2 days in a row and caught 1 fish and a skunk. On my 3rd trip out we were very fortunate and caught 3 keeper sized fish but we only kept 1. I can't believe that I am actually happy with these statistics: 3 trips with 4 fish but for Trophy Season 2017 I'm very pleased with that.
I have some friends from PA coming down to fish Wed. Right now my plan is to run 30+ miles south as north of the bridge seems awful quite. This weekend's rain will have things muddy by then I'm sure. I'm going to downsize a few more baits as well- shorts are better than skunks!! Looking at the wet forecast for next weekend, this will probably be my final "trophy season" trip. Maybe things will surprise me and turn on this week... I reserve the right to change my mind if that happens.
One can only hope!!
I'll be on VHF 16 and 72 and fishing somewhere between 83-86 unless I hear the bite is better someplace else.
