Thanks Paul. Now when I surf fish (not often), my fresh bait never stays on a hook. Don't laugh, I have best success with :fishbites". I know the water may be too cold for them now (I think they suggest 60+ degree water), but I've caught flounder, kings, spot, and a sand shark on fishbites. Is there a trick to keeping the fresh bait on the hook? Maybe if I used the head of a menhaden, it would stay on longer.
Last summer, I was darn near ready to put fresh bait in one of those little crab bags they use for razor clams. Every time I checked my bait, IT was gone.
As you can tell, I'm a great surf fisherman. One day, I'll learn how to read the beach to tell where the holes, sloughs, and rips are.
