I wanted to poke my nose out and check for possible debris and to see how dirty the water was today The good news is the water looked just fine. No logs or grass to deal with, but no fish either

I don't usually get skunked, but today, I got my a$$ handed to me. Mickey and I left the dock at 9am and ran to where I have been having success. We ran past a few charters working north of us and I figured if the fish moved, I would try that new area out. I dropped 6 lines and trolled my area, nothing. I switched out 3 lines with different tackle and still nothing.

Pulled lines and ran to where the charters were working. They were definitely in a search pattern. Nobody was netting fish. We kept a close eye on two charters and never saw anybody reel in anything

Pulled lines again and went to the opposite shore. Dropped lines in an area I like to liveline. Saw one boat chumming the area and they caught a small fish chumming. Trolled the area to no avail

Finally decided to pull lines, run back to eastern side and hope to see some breaking fish or birds on the ride home. Mickey and I saw few birds today. Only small clusters of seagulls pecking at dead fish or sitting in a tide line.

The winds kicked up some nice whitecaps out of the south and we rode the crest of the waves back to Bodkin Creek.

I don't know if the rain moved the fish or if they just had lockjaw today. I did see some nice marks in a couple places, but no rods responded to the marks. Mike and I got a chance to catch up on a nice cool day in August, and he did bring me a big Mako Shark steak for the grill from his Montauk trip

I guess I need to find them again!
Best of luck,

Five reds,one black

I saw some pockets of fish, they just weren't interested

The theory I'm going with is that with the poop plants overflowing, they try to keep their mouths shut for 48 hrs after a heavy rainfall

If you catch one with a clothes pin on his nose you'll know for sure.
I won't be out until next Friday.
Had to get up and golf this morning, wedding tonight, hangover Saturday morning and golfing again Sunday. It's tough but someone has to do it.

Sounds like you are "prepping" for retirement

Taking the wife out early tomorrow to catch some spot. I may use them in the evening (after a nap)

Hi Guys.....Been real busy fishing and havn't had much computer time lately. We have been catching QUALITY fish just south of 86 (gum thickets) everyday for 3 weeks!! ie, yesterday 8/14, dropped anchor at 7:45am, pulled anchor at 8:20am.7 of us landed 19 rock and 12 blues. Released the overs and kept our limit of 14. It's been so fast and furious we try to stop at the limit but having 4 or 5 fish on at the same time is the norm so hence the "overs"!! The NRP has been very active there lately boarding and checking both recs and comms. You have to be mindful of the count so you don't mistakenly keep over the limit.
The blues are a pain (unless you like em) and we have found a heavy sinker, depending on conditions, to get the spot down to the bottom is the ticket for the Rock. Our other secret is we have been on the small spot for several weeks.....it makes ALL the difference in the world!! I'm not saying exactly where but Marty, you know!
We'll be at it again tomorrow hope to see you out there.

Charlie, I was out with Capt John for a fun trip on Tuesday (the day we had all the rain). It is wide open down your way for sure.
I saw breaking fish and birds working over them, that's a sight we don't see too often north of the bridge.

We have had some steady action north of the bridge and it's not far from my slip. I wish the cost of running down your way was less, I would be making the trip more often

Stay on the fish, best to Willy.
