I'm all in favor of nuclear power, but kind of makes you worry how some melting snow can shut down a reactor. The roof on my house is 17 years old and haven't seen a leak yet...knock on wood ...Don

Oh, and Gary....pay no attention to those burning crosses in your front yard.

The main reason for more nuclear power plants is overcrowding of fishermen at discharge pipes. This is causing MAJOR problems as some like to anchor and some like to drift. I tried to notify the Sunpaper that an announcement of the plant being back up would cause problems on our fishing board but they gave me an attitude. If you care to burn a cross in my yard, please do it in different areas as to melt the snow. Could you also do it in the evening so that I may recover any unburned wood as my stockpile is getting low. We are about two weeks behind and I didn't plan for that when I cut my wood in the Spring. Oh and my house is 46 years old and the roof did not leak either. I feel much better now...............Gary

I do a lot of work in boiler rooms. The electrical panels often have a sheet metal roof built over them to protect in case a pipe bursts. The box itself has a lip to shed water.

I agree that a roof leak shutting down a nuke plant makes one wonder.

BGE is really safety oriented - sure they will protect the electrical system better.

It costs millions for the fuel when the plant shuts down.

I believe they were scheduled to take down the second reactor for refueling soon anyway......I think they alternate on like a 2 year cycle.
