I never have been before either but hear about great trips as well as possible rogue waves to watch out for.

Any basic info on ramps and hotels to use or to stay away from?
I have a 24' Bay boat.
I know I could "Search" on another site but this will become a must visit daily, hourly site now. Just keep it simple.

Thank you,
Jeff

I tow my boat down there. I stay at the Kiptopeke Inn and launch at Kiptopeke St Park. It is about 3 miles north of the bridge. I would rather tow down the flat, less congested eastern shore than fight my way down 95 to Va Beach

not the fanciest place but a place lay your head and rest. Lots of fisherman there. Used to be a dump but they cleaned it up some a few years ago. We still call it the cockroach inn

I have never been and hope to try and make it this year. The Frederick MSSA chapter is putting together a trip that I may hook up with. Sounds like a blast to fish down there...Don

I usually get down about 10 or so times... all but one or two of those are the infamous suicide runs.

In years past we've always done our first trip on the saturday after thanksgiving... but we'll be staying local for longer this year.

My favorite times to fish are after the VA season closes... and usually well into February. Less crowded and IME, a more likely chance you'll find bigger fish on the jig.

I don't advertise it much on TF because I feel it's the best secret in town, but I am a HUGE fan of wise ramp if you have a crew. Can be hard to launch there solo with the current, but with a crew on the ropes it's no problem. Just be prepared to pick lettuce off your trailer afterwards. But is much closer and much more sheltered than Kipto.

I've never been but want to. Maybe I can hook up with others going down. I have a 21' and it's a long ride to get down there and find it too rough. That and going with someone who has been there usually cuts down on the learning curve. When is the best time, early December?

December thru February if you ask me. Big fish caught on eels regularly all through that time. Most of our LTJ big fish in the last two years have come later in the "season" (CBBT season, that is) if I remember correctly.
