Default First Time Out with Planer Boards and Autopilot

On Saturday we tested our new auto pilot and planer boards, everything performed flawlessly and there were no major tangles. We managed to get in only two hours of actual trolling starting at about 11am, dragging our six rod spread from mid channel towards Poplar on a south east heading. We weren’t marking a thing, we got no knockdowns, but we were as happy as clams. We were dragging all chartreuse, 2 oz back 100’, 2/4 oz back 80’, and 3/6 oz back 60’; dittos for the other board, but in all white to complete our six rod spread. The water was about 50º, high tide at TPL was at about 8:30 am, the winds were out of the SE at 12 to 15, and there was a 1 foot chop on top of steady 2 foot rollers. It was partly cloudy and a little hazy on the deck.

I learned a lot this past Saturday, and I think I’m going to like this planer board thing. I want to extend big kudos to Jim at Marty’s, Skip, and the fine folks at BOE Marine for helping me to get to this point. There is a longer and more detailed version of this on the other board if anyone is interested.

Don,
Read both posts. Glad to hear you got it figgered out so easily.

Too bad about the lack of pullage. You'll get 'em next time.

Jim

Autopilot was by far the best thing I added to my boat. Glad it worked out for you. You will definitely love it!!!
