Default Some safety items

Was reading Yachting magazine last night looking at boats I could never afford. They had a safety article.

Just passing on some items to look at this spring.

Number one reason for total loss of a boat is fire from electrical ignition. The major source of fire comes from a short or overload in shore power.

Check all thru haul fittings below water line and inspect hose clamps.

Inspect all bilge pumps and make sure they are sized popery to remove the amount of water that would possibly come in if a thru haul failed.

Buy a toilet wax ring. This is a cheep item that can be squeezed into any leak and slow down water. Nerf footballs also are a good object to shove in a tight space to stop / slow down water. May buy some time in an emergency.

If you have a closed in fuel tank Inspect Vents and fuel lines. If you have a fiberglass tank E10 soften tanks. Make sure the blower motor works for removing fumes. Inspect all flame arrestors.

One thing I am always worried about. Is getting a (9/0 hook in my hand or tangling cable in the lower unit. I always I keep a small pair of bolt cutters on the boat.

Just because I am paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get me
