Default Fishing on the bay - 3-7-2012

Fished on the Patent Pending today with 5th Tuition and a few other good fellas.

Since I was just a guest, I'll let the host give as many or as few details as he wishes, but I have permission to post a few pics of the day.

Pretty windy today, but the sun was nice and the temp on the water was probably in the upper 50's.

5th Tuition, aka Marty hiding behind the fish....and my thumb:

Hey; I just got back from an Admin. Board Meeting at my church. Scott, thanks for posting the pics.
A quick down and dirty report. We hit the Power Plant to try some jigging. There were three other boats there and with one reactor down for maintanace, we didn't see many fish caught. After our 46 ft Markley chased away the other boats, we left to try trolling the eastern side of the bay back toward Deale. We saw Lots of bait. The bait was deep. Most bait was 40-50 ft down in 70 ft of water.
Once we ducked into 35-40 ft of water, the bait disappeared. Back in 70 ft; I ran two umbrells (one with 30 ozs and one with 32 ozs). The 32 oz umb caught the fish.
We saw several gannets (none diving).
We knew it was TOO soon, but had to try anyway. We are headed out again tomorrow and I will be adjusting my 6 rod spread accordingly.
I'll stay in touch.
5th (Marty)

But....but....but it was only one fish. And yeah we harrassed him good. Marty dropped that 32 ounce umbrella rig right on the fish's head. That's the only reason we caught him.

I want to say thanks again to Marty and Capt John for a great day on the water. The boat is beautiful and comfortable. And even the company wasn't too bad.

Oh, one last detail......

At first we didn't notice, but yes, the fish did have a few sea lice on him.

OK. Because todays trip was soooooo like yesterdays, I'll add this trip to yesterdays thread.

Again we left the dock at 8am and headed south to Ches. Beach where we dropped lines and trolled. I decided to try to get everything a little deeper than yesterday (except the two heaviest umb.).
We had an occassional whitecap and the bay wasn't bad at all. When we marked some nice bait and fish, Capt John dropped the boat into neutral and tried to get our lines deeper. We did this a couple of times, until I saw the deepest lines "tick" bottom.
I checked lines; and yes they were dirty. I was cleaning the baits and reseting them when a 10 oz umb 16 bars back got hit. Another 32 inch male was photographed and released.
The wind really picked up and we called it a day with only one fish. Whitecaps were on every wave and the I would guess we had 3-4 footers on the ride home.
Friends of Capt John (Dan, Mitch, and John) made up the crew today. They, like many of us were just "itching" to get out on the water. They were a great group of guys, who I hope come back this April for trophy season.

We are gong to lay low for about a week and try again. My theory is that the bay has not "turned over" yet. The warm water is still on the bottom, hence the bait and rock hanging deep. I'm going to put a post in the General Discussion section and ask others for any information about confirming my theory and if they know at what temp. the "turn over" occurs.

See you in a week

Sea lice on this fish too???

Glad y'all were safe out there. The wind started getting really nasty at my house around 10am. The wife and I went overto the shore today for lunch and a little hiking and the wind seemed to finally let up around 4:00pm.

When I said, "Never do that again" that also included recalling the story on the interwebz.
