Default Fishing - 11-25-2011 Mid Bay

Garlien and I went out this morning around 8:30 to work off the holiday meal by fighting some fish.

I think I gained two pounds out there today.

Water was like GLASS most of the morning and we were feeling pretty confident. Hit the usual spot for about 45 minutes with nothing to show for it but getting a lure hung up on the bottom.

We decided to head south to the mouth of the Magothy and see what was happening. No birds anywhere to be found, and when we hit the channel of the Magothy there were 3 boats working the channel edge as you enter the river. So we thought maybe we had a good idea after all....and we figured we would fuel up at Fairwinds while we were there.

The only thing we caught there was a visit from DNR. They had 3 or 4 boats working the mouth of the Magothy ostensibly to check up on duck hunters......so they claimed. They were with us for about 3 minutes.....life jackets - check, registration - check, valid fishing licence - check. And off they went. Of course their timing SUCKED as we had JUST watched two fish break the water and saw a HUGE swirl about 10 yards away from the boat. Then they went and stopped the other boats that were fishing in the area.

Went to Fairwinds....fuel dock was closed today, and someone had their duck blind permit posted on the dock. I guess they shoot ducks off of the pier when not selling fuel.

Started back out of the Magothy and headed north again. Threw the lines back out a few hundred feet south of our usual spot and trolled around for a bit. We usually do an east/west pattern but that obviously was no good today. So we switched to north/south and within 3 minutes we had a fish on. Garlien brought in a fat and healthy 24" fish. A few minutes later my rod went down and I pulled in an 18" beauty......full of great color and pretty stripes.

I was running out of time so we had to head back to the marina. Not a smoking hot day, but a very nice day on the water nonetheless.

Both fish came in about 8' of water over some serious rock structure.
