Default Laptop Charting

I want to interface a handheld Garmin GPS to a laptop for
charting info. Does anyone do this? What software for the
laptop? Seems doable but not sure.

You can typically connect any garmin handheld to a laptop via nmea and a serial cable. You will need charting software, most of this is very pricey. Lots of good brands out there. Nobeltec, and Rosepoint to name 2.
