Default Looking for recommendation on a soft, low memory 20lbs mono.

I have zippy experience with "light" mono, however I am looking to spool up some small spinning reels for light bottom fishing (perch and spot).

I want to use ~20lbs line so when the customers get hung up on I can break off the snelled hooks and save the hi-low bottom rigs and weight.

Not interested in braid - too hard to break off when you need to.

In an effort to try and save cash, I bought 20lbs Berkley Big Game at Wallyworld - It's entirely too stiff and springs off the reel the minute you open the bail.

Looking for recommendation for a soft, low memory 20lbs mono.

Thanks.

Tawn, I am certainly no expert on mono, but I use 17 lb Stren MagnaThin on most of my spinning reels. If they even still make it, that's what I would recommend (it works for me). I forget what the true diameter corresponds to (maybe 12 lb test)?
I need to get more of this myself

I haven't bought any for a long time, I had a fairly large spool and I'm out
It's sensitive enough for perch/spot, yet handles summertime schoolie rock (livelining) with ease. With a good drag, you can even get a Skate to the boat close enough to cut the leader

For my TRUE spot rods, I use a lighter line

Looks like it comes in 16 and 20 lb test now. The diameter will be smaller than regular 16 and 20 lb

Thanks Marty,

I ended up spooling them with 14lbs Vanish Floro because that was the only light, non-braid, line I had at the time but I can already foresee burning through a lot of bottom rigs and weights with that light a line.

A glitter-boat friend of mine recommended Trilene Extra Limp. I have never heard of it, but since we don't have a trip today, I may run to BPS and see what they have.

You fishing at all this weekend? Will be back out there tomorrow, Monday.

We had to cancel Saturdays trip. They showed up with eight people and then proceeded to try and convince us it was it was okay because "kids don't count" and two of them were police officers.

Tawn,
If I used Trilene Extra Limp, I wouldn't tell anyone

The wife and I kayaked Rockhold Creek today. Paddled past your boat and also saw a green Judge 27 Chesapeake across the creek from you

We saw Frayed Knot (Captain Wayne Morgan) coming in from a trip. Also saw a group cleaning fish just below your marina, he said he had 21 fish in three hours out front this morning

Best of luck with your line. Maybe Extra Limp won't cut seals

Thanks - the part that sucks is getting there at 0500 to have everything broken out, rigged, boat iced down with the motor running, just to turn around and put it all back away.
