Default Need feedback on 1'st draft of new logo

Hey guys,
We decided we needed a bad @ss logo for this whole tackle web site deal.

Here's the first kick back from our design guy. He is a buddy of mine and doing this for BOTTOM dollar so I can't be too critical. But here's what I got so far.

1. Change the barb placement on the hook and make it in the fish's mouth.
2. Drop the crab down to the O in outfitters because it looks weird that the crab is behind the words.

Let me know. Final version will be done Monday!

Take the crab out and you have a logo that is very similar to the one used for Chesapeake Sportfishing Show that was held in Annapolis for over 22 years starting in 1977 . I still have the t-shirt from 1978. If I can figure how to do it I'll forward a copy to you via b-mail.

The thing about logos is they have to be easily read in small print...quickly. Reduce the size to 1/8 of a page of a magazine and play the part of a reader. Would you like the logo then? Is it easily identifiable and linked to your product? If you are advertising in a magazine, your logo will only take up a small amount of space so your message can be read.

I"d either create two;
1 with lettering only for print adds and 1 with the fish and crab for tee shirts or large adds.
I like the name, get rid of the barb (PC), and get the crab and the rod butt out of the lettering.

Helpful???

I like it... However just remember when you go big time and want to sell shirts and hats or print catalogs that a good logo should also look good in one or two colors. Look at the new MSSA logo for example and branding.

Given that it is a header for a web store.. I like it.

I believe separation is key.
Look at other signs, logo's, lettering as you drive down the road.
Some are a total waste of money in that you can't read it or tell what it is until you get right on top of it.

Are you doing anything with crabs, ie; traps, nets, etc? Or do you have the crab there due to it's relationship with the bay?
If you do not sell anything in relationship to the crab then I say drop it. It will only add confusion to what your business is geared toward.

I always think of an "Outfitter" as someone or company that takes you hunting or fishing and is able to "outfit" you with everything from travel to sleeping arrangements, to clothing to the actual gear you will be using to acquire your quarry.

Don't mean to be critical just constructive. Just how as a customer that knows nothing about you business would view it for the first time. It needs to get their attention first then hold it long enough to regesiter in their brain.
For them to say "Oh, that's a tackle company, I like their logo!".
It is an attention getter and should make them want to check into you business further, then actually buy something.

JMHO.
