Default Anybody else dislike holiday weekends, on the water??

Started out trying to prove a point to my girl... Headed across to my crabbing spot, at 4:30 am.. On the way across, watched several boats working their trotlines, and traps... They had to have set their gear by at least 4.. After waiting until legal time, and setting my traps around their gear, giving more than enough space, I really appreciated a couple of the crabbers blowing through my traps, circling around to run theirs.... After that, I had the priveledge to deal with boats, 35ft+, blowing through everyone's gear.. Are these boaters clueless, or rude?? Amazingly enough, only one boat almost sank, swamped due to big boat wakes.. You really should pay attention to your surroundings.. Managed to catch 15 monsters, by 1:30... Good thing i have outgrown my younger self..,

Joe

Joe,

Was on the west side of the bay today and watched an "old man" taking his family out for what looked like his last time and he blew past me at about 30 mph in a large 30 foot boat...Oh he never took his eyes off his sonar and just missed a Carolina Skiff by something like 10 feet...He never looked up to see me or the skiff....

Holiday weekends (and weekends in general) suck...Its when all the "weekenders" are out...They just never stop amazing me....Oh and don't get me started on sailboats...

Reminds me of a quote a really smart guy used to say about boating:

"It doesn't take brains to buy a boat, only money!"

I went out Friday with Mark and Jason on my boat from Sandy Point at 5 am.

Fished around LP marker / Love Point with 100's of boats.

Left at 10:00 - could see it only getting worse. I swear some 30-40 footers seem to try to make biggest wake possible. Big wake often means boat is not trimmed right - burns much more $$$$$ fuel.

I'll stick to uncrowded weekdays.

I was out around Key Bridge Sunday afternoon/evening, I felt I was playing dodge boat.. Twice, I saw boats almost hit the fort, they looked up just in time to turn hard, and barely missed.. How do you almost hit a freakin island??

Like clockwork - every 4th of July weekend one ends up on the Deale jetties. This year was no exception.

Joe - about 15 years ago , a go fast did hit the fort at night. Looked like a 35-40 footer - it was 3/4 out of water. Was there 2 days until salvage crew got there to remove it.
