Default Choptank, Poplar Narrows, and Eastern Bay - 8/19

We hit the mouth of choptank again yesterday on way home from cambridge after failing to find the blue action we were looking for on Monday morning. We spent about 2 hours trying for spot in several areas around Cook Point with good current. We didn't catch a single spot, not even a perch! Also searched for birds during that time, but found none. So we headed through Knapp's Narrows hoping to find spot in Poplar Narrows. Instead we found small breaking blues and rock under birds and jigged them for an hour or so until we lost them. I asked a Crabber pulling pots about spot, and he said he had only seen 6 all summer! We spent a half hour trying for spot anyway when I saw some good marks, but caught nothing. Headed north looking for birds in ebay. After a half hour searching, finally spotted working birds about 3 miles away in binocs. By the time we got there thought they were gone but noticed birds sitting EVERYWHERE in the rough water when suddenly fish started breaking and thousands of birds got up and went after them. We caught a bunch of small rock and blues on Stingsilvers, but I was looking for the 5 pound blues and macs I had heard about in the area. So we put out 3 rods with planers and spoons and ran through the breakers 3 or 4 times. Managed to get a few 17" blues and rockfish up to 18", but only trolled for a half hour and it was time to head home. Hoping to go after the big blues and macs in the area sunday morning!
