Default Need some help - how to catch snakeheads

OK....after reading some articles and searching on the net I'm intrigued and gonna go snakehead hunting.........but I havn't got a clue and info on catching them is pretty lame.
Looks like they like topwater baits such as frogs, maybe crankbaits, or live baits such as minnows and frogs.......trying to stay away from live baits....

So does anyone on this board have snakehead fishing experience or tips to share? Any ideas?
Looks like shallow water and vegetation is prime habitat so guess using largemouth techniques would be best?

Can you even catch them in winter or do they hide in the mud?

Any help / thoughts appreciated.

Capt. Steve,
You know Erik the mate. I have a pic at the shop with him and a 36"er he caught on the Potomac this summer.

I wanna go too. Let's call him.

Jim

Hi Steve,
Most people catch them when targeting largemouths. There is a creek just above Ft. Washington that I've been told holds a lot of them. In the spring target the dock in that creek. Supposedly they are visible under the docks but tough to sight fish for. I've yet to catch one but I don't get down there enough. The wife wants to catch one real bad for some reason, maybe I'll hook up with a guide to get her one (some excuse is better than none).

Mike

I'm not sure if Mike Starrett is on here, but I think he's said his customers caught 8 this summer.

In the summer, he mainly does LMB charters in Mattawoman creek.

Pretend like you're bass fishing on the Potomac.
