Default lowrance or northstar?

I' m driving myself nuts looking at plotter/fishfinder combos. I think either the northstar 660 or lowrances 28c hd. we are hardcore salmon fishermen taking our 23footer to SE Alaska. These machines are in our price range, can you offer any help in this decision? Any other combos you like better in the same league? Thanks Dave

This is an easy one. The FF is significantly better on the LCX-28. The 660 has a nice chartplotter but nobody that owns one has ever bragged about the FF. Go with teh LCX-28 if you are into hardcore fishing.

Default Northstar

What's the feeling out there for Northstar electronics, particularly the Explorer657 combo? I'm on inland lakes and "need" GPS with some fishfinding capabilities at a reasonable price, Also want ease of installation which is why I will also get the Northstar in-hull transducer.

Northstar (formerly Navman) units like the 657 are very popular abroad. They have very nice screens, do chartplotting great, and are OK at FF. If the chartplotter is your primary function the it is a good choice.

Thanks to Jim's quick response and advice I will be ordering the Lowrance 522C igps with the Lowrance PD-WBL shoot thru hull transducer. Fishing was my primary concern, so thanks Jim.
