Default Another Good Night Out

I have to say that, although last year started out very slow for me, by the time July rolled around the fishing caught fire...and it has not stopped since...This may be my best 12 month period of fishing in my 40+ years...

Every month has brought different stories, big fish (citations), many fish, varied fish, fish, fish, fish...

So last night I decided to go old school and bottom fish....Kept the rubber, plastic, and metal out of the water for once...Bait of choice was old table shrimp, left over steamed crabs, and fish bites blood worms...The shrimp won the bait of the night award but the crabs did not do bad either...

Was fishing on the west side, above the Magothy, working structure in 8 to 12 feet of water...Starting fishing about 6:30, got a hit as soon as the bait hit the water and it was non stopped till about 8:30 when I headed in...Lost count of the perch and the hardheads (Finally coming in numbers, although small), brought in close to a dozen cats on the old crabs (surprise bait of the night award), and as the sun began to fall I was about to land a couple stripers and one keeper size....4 species, 2 hours, lost count of the fish...A great night....

Seems we all have different "go to" baits for hardheads...I have to stick by left over table shrimp, cooked with old bay...They have worked for me for years...Heck even the perch were tearing them up last night...I dont know why steamed shrimp works better for me than fresh shrimp for hardheads...Maybe they just enjoy a little old bay with thier meal...

Best part of the experience was using a 4 and 1/2 foot ultra light rod to make all these fish feel like sharks each time they hit...

Anyway, hope you all are doing well too...Out for a few days, hope to get back in action by the end of the week....
