Default Help - Crabs

All,

I have a couple of folks who I use when I order steamed crabs and will continue to use them.

However, I do have what seems to be an annual problem....On Monday I am heading up to Montauk to fish with some friends...My contribution is always a bushel of crabs from Maryland.

Transporting steamed crabs will probably get too much moisture in them, so it looks like, as usual, I will be taking a live bushel up...

Anyone know where I can get a bushel of x large sized (ie big) live crabs and be able to pick them up this Monday before 12:00 PM so I do not get to Montauk too late on Monday ? I will do the usuaul large cooled with a rack and ice on the bottom to keep them from drowning, keep them cool, annd make sure they arrive alive.

Any suggestions or help that any of you can provide would be very appreciated.

Mike

Ps I live in Pasadena but don't mind going out of the way for rreally good crabs.

Thanks again !

You might try Sea Side carry out in Glen Burnie - close to Hosp. drive.

Shore Line in Crofton often has large crabs - but you'll pay $$$$ for them.

Crab prices have been extremely high this year - plus supply has been very spotty. Many places are getting a lot from other states.

Not being wise a$$ - might be worth calling places in NJ - they have blue crabs.

Finding a bushel on Monday morning might be tough - often crab houses sell out over weekend. I know a few places are closed on Mondays - guess it's a slow day for them.

Stop by the bank and apply for a loan before you try to buy x-large crabs.

There have been some coming out of the Wye with a total of 45 crabs to the bushel. Last I heard they were bringing $150 a bushel off the boat. Which translates to about $300 retail.

I really appreciatte them taking the time to work with me to get this done...
