Default July Perch Tournament

Anybody here going to enter the July MSSA Perch Tournament that will be held around the mouth of the Magothy ?

Figure it would be a heck of a lot of fun targeting the smaller fish for a tournament like this...

Sounds like Perch, Spot, and Croaker will be part of the tournament....

Anyway, just wondering if any would be trying it out this year....

Garlien, I have fished the tournament the last few times. It's a blast.
It is set up rodeo style. Fish 4 different locations. The comity boat places a buoy out and you have to stay within a 300yds distance of the float. No anchoring and one rod per angler. Fish each location for 30-45 min a horn is blown and the entire group moves to the next location. Run back to Sandy point and weigh in your 5 heaviest perch combined total weight takes the prize. It’s a good time for family and friends.

That sounds awesome...How many boats are usually out there ? I guess that can get very crowded ? What type of weights are people bringing in ?

I have seen a couple of these around the area over on the eastern shore, delaware, etc...

I guess the boat has to be launched at Sandy Point ? I keep mine in the Bodkin and would be a royal PITA to get down there just to start and turn back around....

Garlien, The weights usually are in the 3 + pound range for a 5 fish bag. The ebtry runs 70.00 for entry and all of the side bets first place usually takes a good pay day home. I would estimate 30 boats usually enter. The extra species pay out are 50.00 for three biggest spot 50.00 for three biggest Croaker. You don’t have to start out at sandy just be at the first location by the start of the tournament.

Pidicory point, Snake reef inside Snake reef outside then the finial location is by comity of those fishing. It a good time probably a 15 -20 minute run from the Bodkin.

It is a fun time - judging by the many repeat entries.

Wish a Fish falls on the same day - puts many out of the tournament.
