Default Fishing 8-16-18

Went out the other day looking for spot. Slipped under the bridge and saw a familiar 27 Grady Sailfish anchored up in about 13 ft of water I called Skip and asked if he had spot under him. Yep. Can I anchor up beside and get a few? Absolutely.
Had some bloodworms about 2 weeks old (turn them every day). They were a little on the thin side, but better than Fishbites Put 21 in the live well (trash can) and headed to my slip for a low wind morning.
Today was the day !! I grabbed a couple of guys from church and we left the slip early (6:15 am). I tried spot at a location very close to my creek, but nobody was home this morning (not even a run off).
Kicked the Judge in the ass and ran south scouting for birds or breaking fish (charter captain saw some in the river yesterday). No birds or fish breaking, so we continued south to a wreck that we fish.
As I approached my "waypoint" the FF lit up. Very little current at 7am, so we drifted the area with spot. It was very productive !!! However, damn circle hooks produced more runoffs than hookups
I think we had one or two in the box, when the current started running enough to anchor. We found a "sweet spot" with excellent marks and continued to have runoff after runoff. We had four nice fish in the box when we ran out of bait (largest was 30 inches, several in upper 20's).
I ran south to look for more bait. Only had Fishbites, and the pickings were SLOW !!! With several friends out on the bay (Mlag, Ifish, Skip); it wasn't long before Mark (Mlag) called on the phone to not only offer us some bait, but gave us his location to catch our final two fish (he was done).
Having friends like this makes my day on the bay very productive. I can't thank Skip and Mlag enough.
Not sure when I will get out again. I now have to take into consideration Wind, Weather, and Melanie
Mark, if you need someone to help catch bait, let me know, I owe you one !!
A couple of pic's to follow from my cell phone.

Did a couple of chores early this morning and wife said, "You are free the rest of the day" My plan was to go down the boat and rig up a few more circle hooks/leaders and replace the two bottom rigs we lost while attempting to fish for spot. Just a day to "tinker" a bit at the boat.
My cell rings and Mlag says he's headed to his boat and would I like to go catch a few spot. Remember; he gave me about 20 the other day, so I said sure, let's replace those you gave me.
I get to his boat and he says, "We have to put a few rock in the boat first" Can't argue with that logic, so he throws a couple of net full of spot in the live well, and off we go. Mark always has been a live linning master. Circle hooks hasn't slowed him down He easily hooks up double the fish I do.
We only needed 4 fish, so he quit fishing to allow me to get my second keeper in the box (thanks bro).

We were fortunate to put 29 spot back into the bait well. That at least replaced my 20 and may have covered the ones we used to get our limit today. So while he didn't Gain any bait, he Recovered the last two days of bait

Every time I'm on his boat, it's a learning experience. After two outings with circle hooks, I believe I'm getting more comfortable with them.

I came home with a couple of nice filets, and a positive fishing experience. Not bad for a day that I didn't plan to get out on the water.
