Default Bay Bridge Wed Morning

Lou and I launched about 5:45 this morning and found spot right up against the pilings of the south bridge in shallow water. Put about 15 in the livewell and headed to some deeper pilings. Tide was running out at a fair clip so we anchored uptide and drifted some spot back. We picked up two average rock (23-25 inches). We noticed a boater anchored; but with the cover off his motor. We watched him for a while and pulled anchor to see if he needed any help. As we approached; we heard the motor start and we thought "what the hell, lets go down to Hackets and see if we can get some big perch". He started waving us over, and we thought he had problems again, HOWEVER, the motor was running and pissing water when we pulled alongside. He said he was done for the day and did we want his extra spot. Hell yeh! He dipped about 20 nice size spot (4-5inches) into a bucket and handed it to us.
We changed our minds about hackets and headed to the eastern shore side of the bridge to get away from the western shore boats. We found a breakline and anchored up on the last of the outgoing current and quickly picked up our last two rockfich limit (same size as before).
Started to get warm around 10:30 so we picked up and headed to the barn. Back at Sandy Point, we released our spot (no one was headed out). We loaded the boat, stored rods, gave the survey guy a small piece of our mind about PSCR and hit the restroom.
When we came out, a guy and his wife launched a small tracker boat and we gave then our extra bloodworms and wished them luck.
Came home, cleaned the fish and the wife says "I have some friends coming over for lunch because I didn't think you would be home yet". So she fixed them fresh rockfish filets and they loved them.
It was a good day.

Steve; we saw the cover off the motor; but the guy was working mostly around the console. I thought he was going to tear out the dash before we got there. I guess the problem was electrical, or cables?
I suppose once he got the motor running, he figured he better get back to SP while he could. Glade to get his spot, and they were a better grade. We caught 3-4 inch spot and he had some 4-5 inch spot. Love those 5 inchers, they create a lot more comotion in the water.

Marty-

What do you mean about the survey guy and the PSCR? Was this some official waiting at SPSP ramp?

uncljohn; someonewill jump in here to give you the exact title of the surveyer who's at Sandy Point. I'm not 100 % sure of the survey; is it the famous Mssef study (sp)?
He is affiliated with NOOA; but it's not the NOOA study associated with our new cards.
My main beef is that data is used to support whatever they (DNR) want it to support. It's hard to believe that an agency that restricts Catch and Release would have to have a public meeting to try to figure out how to vote on INCREASING the coastal catch by 10%.
For now, and I did say for now, I'll keep my catch rate and hours fished to myself. I may share this info in the future; but I have to be convinced that the data won't come back to bite me in the behind.
