Default Check your tags:)

My boat trailer tags were up for renewal this month ($160). There has been a big discussion on TF about whether we should purchase Maine Tags over Md. Tags. It seems they are cheaper and they are good for 5 years instead of two

Well I decided to be a good Marylander and renew at the DMV today. I took my notice, filled out the information and stood in the "information" line. About 10 minutes into it, an employee announces anyone for renewals could follow her to a kiosk for tag renewal. Yes. Only took about 2 minutes and I had my new sticker in hand.

I came home, put my registration in my truck and took the sticker to my trailer. I walked to the left rear side, no tag Ok, maybe the tag is on the other side Nope, no tag on trailer Went back to the left rear and sure enough the plastic bracket is broken off I have no idea how long it has been missing.

Back to DMV I go with my story. It cost me another $20 for new tags and a much longer wait!

Check your trailer tonight, see if your tags are still there

If you go to Sandy Point on an extreme low tide - very good odds you'll see 1-2 tags on the bottom. We go there in winter when water is clearer - always find few " treasures ".

You may want to check the ramp (s) you use.

When you pull forward - water pressure breaks the tag loose.

The newer tags seem to be from thinner metal then the older ones.

I'm looking into getting an aluminum backing plate made for my boat trailer.

The tags are already showing signs of wearing through the bolt heads.

Thanks for the reminder. Mine actually expired in August, I think...
