Spent the weekend in Islamarada with 3 friends. Went out Saturday looking for Sailfish but conditions were not right, no current of the reefs. Sooo we tried trolling for some wahoo and that didn't pan out. Captain wanted to get us some dinner so we chugged out to 425 feet on a ledge and did some deep dropping with an electric reel and a bent but rod. Bottom rig with 4 hooks baited with squid and around 24 oz of lead. as soon as the bait would reach bottom we would get a bite and engage the reel and up it came all by itself
. Not alot of sport invloved but they still have to know how to rig and set the boat up for propper drifts. We caught "Silk Snapper" same as Red Snapper but they have yellow eyes. Caught 15 or so of them up to 10# and then tried drifting some livies for sailfish again. No luck on sails
.
Took some fish to Lazy Days for them to cook for us for dinner and man what a dinner we had. Sitting on the outside deck over looking the ocean in 78 degree weather
.
Good time had by all and it makes the winter a little shorter.
