Its not a real expensive investment, so sure, never hurts to have one more gadget in your bag. Its alot easier to figure out what a BAR equals. Thats one run of the spool. Depending on the reel, one bar generally equals 8/9 feet, of braid/steel. Not sure what a bar of mono is.

I wouldn’t troll without one in the spring. I like to use the hand held line counter. I have three on the boat. Place a lanyard on them and put them on your wrist. I have already dropped three of them overboard. Nice gadget for placing your lines at the same distance each time. Very helpful when putting out larger spreads.. Also it’s easy to tell a new person on the boat take the line counter and the rod, put it out 100’.

Default Another option: metered braid

I'm going to start spooling my rods with metered braid - changes color every so many feet. Here is an example (seems pricey):

Numerous companies make this now. Found some as Bass Pro last week, just not in the lb test I wanted. Seems to be hard to find right now. If anyone knows where to get some, I'd like to know.

So I will get some line counters...Sounds like a better idea than marking off my lines...Always seems to be a pain in the a#$@$....

That metered braid, wow...Someone saw a need and jumped on it...Great idea but does seem a little on the high side....Maybe its one of those things that with another year the price drops....

Are we fishing yet ?

Bug Guy,

At the Annapolis MSSA show over the weekend All Tackle had some of the metered Sufix braid on their table. I am sure they could get you any lb test available.

Paul - thanks. I'll head up to the Annapolis store soon and see what they have and how much.
Cheers,
bob
